The West Oakland Mural Project

West Oakland Mural Project is: The Women of The Black Panther Party Mural and the First Ever Black Panther Party Museum. The Mural is a 2000-square-foot public art masterpiece, installed on a private home in the heart of West Oakland, CA. Envisioned and curated by long time Oaklander Jilchristina Vest, this mural recognizes and honors the role of the Black Panther Women and the over 65 Community Survival Programs they created and managed. On the first floor of the same home is The Black Panther Party Museum - a 1000sqft museum dedicated to the history of the BPP.

The Mural is the first and only permanant public art piece honoring the Women of the Black Panther Party. And the Museum is the first ever museum.

This project is to remind us that The Black Panther Party was formed and consisted of young humanitarians, gathered to protect and better the lives of poor and oppressed people throughout the world.

Pay respect to the Black Panther Women Party. Visit and literally look up to Black women. Leave them flowers, an offering, a thank you. Read their names aloud. Tell them that what they did for us matters. Say Thank you. They can hear you. #SeeBlackWomen #blackpanthermovement
